Application for patients after endoprosthesis

Young doctors have created the first in Poland medical application for patients undergoing endoprosthetic surgery. The project was financed by the Medical University of Warsaw.

Uniwersytet Medyczny.

- My top students, now doctors, have created an app, "Endopedia," to help patients preparing for hip replacement surgery. The app is in development and will soon cover the knee joint as well. I consider this mini-grant to be one of the most valuable projects, exceptionally original and, most importantly, in a period of increased demand for this type of surgery, very useful," says the grant coordinator, Paweł Łęgosz, MD, PhD, from the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Motor System at the Infant Jesus Clinical Hospital UCK WUM.

- We have created this application with patients in mind, so that they are more aware of the procedure they are about to undergo. This will reduce the stress of the "unknown - before the operation". Our application is also a signpost for the patient, how to prepare for the surgery, what to expect in the hospital, and how to cope after the surgery. Everything is done with a view to making the patient feel cared for at the highest possible level - says Nicola Dyrek, one of the project creators.

- We tried to include all the necessary and reliable information on preparation for surgery, hospital stay, the procedure itself and how the post-surgery recovery process will look like - informs the creators of the application.

The application was created under the supervision of Paweł Łęgosz, MD, by Łukasz Pulik, PhD, Krzysztof Romaniuk, Nina Grabowska and Nicola Dyrek. All authors are associated with the Students Scientific Group of Reconstructive and Oncologic Orthopaedics WUM, which works at the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Motor System of the Infant Jesus Clinical Hospital UCK WUM.
